How Octalap makes training decisions

Octalap keeps a stable race-date plan, measures what was actually completed and proposes conservative changes to future training. AI can help structure or explain a proposal, but typed training rules decide whether it is accepted.

Current validation status: the methodology is linked to published research and executable product rules. It has not yet been independently reviewed or approved by a qualified coach. It is training information, not medical advice or clearance.

    Structure

    Build the 8–16 week progression around the race date, experience, benchmarks, time and equipment.

    Observe

    Record completed duration, RPE and a short weekly recovery check-in instead of guessing from a single metric.

    Propose

    Explain a bounded future change and show what would change before applying it.

  4. 04

    Validate

    Reject changes that break history, schedule, equipment, progression, deload, taper or safety constraints.

This was the first small HYROX-specific study. Associations do not prove that one prescription works for every athlete.

Easy sessions showed more disagreement, so the value is descriptive and should not be treated as a precise physiological measurement.

Finding
HRV guidance may improve vagal-related measures, but observed fitness and performance advantages over predefined training were small and not statistically significant.
How Octalap uses it
Treat a consistent HRV trend as optional context rather than a single-day command.
Boundary
Recording methods and baseline definitions vary. A wearable value must not automatically overrule the athlete or the long-term plan.

Endurance intensity distribution

No single intensity distribution was superior for every athlete; training status may influence whether pyramidal or polarized work is more useful.

The evidence is from endurance sports rather than run-and-station racing and included far fewer women than men.

The result concerns maximal-strength development, not a universal ban on combined or hybrid sessions.

A taper of up to 21 days that meaningfully reduces volume while retaining intensity and frequency can improve time-trial performance.
How Octalap uses it
Protect a progressive pre-race volume reduction instead of replacing it with missed-load catch-up.
Boundary
The optimal taper remains athlete- and event-dependent and is not specific to HYROX.

  • It does not treat one wearable score, HRV value or model response as ground truth.
  • It does not claim that a fixed intensity split or load cap prevents injury.
  • It does not call the product coach-validated before an independent review has been completed and recorded.
  • It does not silently rewrite completed training or apply an unvalidated AI proposal.
